Jones Snowboards x Whitelines – Chris Christenson Interview

The past decade has seen an explosion in new snowboard shapes, many inspired by classic surf designs. Last winter I was invited to explore the subject via an interview with Chris Christenson, as part of a marketing collab between Whitelines and Jones Snowboards.

Chris Christenson has been surfing since 1985 and creating cutting edge watercraft from his base in California for several decades. He also happens to be passionate about snowboarding, so when he crossed paths with legendary freerider Jeremy Jones, it seemed natural to pool their experience on a new range of powder surfers.

“Our interview was a deep dive into the shared cultures of surf and snow”

Our interview was a deep dive into the shared cultures of surf and snow, as well as a lesson in product engineering. How can snowboarding, with its rigid supply chains, incorporate some of the rapid innovation that comes from carving blocks of foam just yards from the beach? And is there anything the wave riding fraternity can learn from modern snowboard technology?
